VFL RECAP: Round 10 Saturday

Saturday Round 10 Peter Jackson VFL matches saw wins to Geelong, Casey Demons and Port Melbourne.

GEELONG 21.11 (137) d NORTH MELBOURNE 5.7 (37)

IN A NUTSHELL: Geelong has continued its rise up the ladder with a dominant 100-point win over North Melbourne. The Cats kept North to just three points in the first half, while adding 15 goals on their home turf. Geelong led by as much as 125 points early in the final term, before the Kangaroos hit the scoreboard late with the final four goals of the game. Three of the final term goals to North went to Nick Larkey.

KEY MOMENTS: Geelong kicked the first 19 goals of the game, with North Melbourne only able to kick its first major of the game 27 minutes into the third term to Oscar Junker.

LEADING GOALKICKERS: Geelong – Gregson 5, Crameri 3, Narkle 3, Horlin Smith 2, Miers 2 / North Melbourne – Larkey 3

FORMLINES: Geelong has jumped into the VFL top four with its third win in a row. North Melbourne’s three game winning streak has come to an end, with the Kangaroos first loss since Round 6

CASEY DEMONS 11.10 (76) d COLLINGWOOD 8.5 (53)

IN A NUTSHELL: Once Casey hit the front 11 minutes into the first term, they did not look back, with multiple options to goal. Twice Collingwood cut the Demons’ lead to under two goals, but the home side replied each team with multiple goals to take Casey’s winning streak to five games.

KEY MOMENTS: Three late goals in the second quarter drew Collingwood to within four points at half time, but Casey answered the challenge with the next four goals to jump to a matchwinning 29-point lead early in the final term.

LEADING GOALKICKERS: Casey Demons – Bugg 2, Balic 2 / Collingwood – all singles

FORMLINES: Casey is the form team of the competition with Richmond, having won five games in a row. It is back-to-back defeats for Collingwood, as the Magpies spot in the VFL top four is now in jeopardy.

PORT MELBOURNE 20.20 (140) d WERRIBEE 9.8 (62)

IN A NUTSHELL: After Werribee led early in the first term, two late goals to end the quarter gave Port Melbourne a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game. Werribee challenged again late in the second term, kicking three unansnered goals to cut the margin to just six points, but Port answered with 10 unanswered goals, including a five goal to nil third term.

KEY MOMENTS: After kicking 8.14 in the first half, Port found their accuracy in the second half to kick 12.6 and run away with the win.

LEADING GOALKICKERS: Werribee – Corbett 2 / Port Melbourne – Lisle 4, Hobbs 3, Conway 3, Anastasio 3

FORMLINES: Werribee was unable to produce back-to-back wins for the first time this season. Port Melbourne has moved into fifth with back-to-back wins.
