AFL Statement – Hard Yakka / Totally Workwear VFL and Rebel Sport VFLW season update

Intention to start the 2020 Hard Yakka / Totally Workwear VFL season on Friday 3rd April at Olympic Park Oval

Across the Hard Yakka / Totally Workwear VFL and Rebel Sport VFLW competitions, the health and safety of our staff, players and fans is paramount, therefore we want to reassure our football community that we are regularly consulting with the Australian Government, the World Health Organisation and the AFL’s Chief Medical Officers.
It remains our intention to start the 2020 Hard Yakka / Totally Workwear VFL season on Friday 3rd April at Olympic Park Oval.
The AFL acknowledges the advice of the medical authorities that there is a potential for this to change and for potential interruption across the VFL and VFLW season. The AFL will continue to look at all fixturing alternatives to ensure matches are played.
The health and well-being of fans, players, umpires, officials, partners and communities is the priority, with the decision made following advice provided by both Federal and state governments and the State and Territory Chief Medical Officers.
We will continue to be guided by the most up-to-date advice while acknowledging that matters may continue to evolve.
The situation is fluid and further protocols will reflect this.
