Their selections made it a total of 10 VFL players to have joined AFL clubs on Friday following half a dozen VFL picks in the AFL Draft, and add to the earlier concession listings of Werribee teammates Josh Corbett and Sam Collins at Gold Coast as well as Corey Wagner’s agreement to join Melbourne in the upcoming Supplemental Selection Period.

KIERAN STRACHAN (Port Melbourne)

Rookie pick no.7 to Adelaide

204cm ruckman Strachan, 23, played four VFL games for Essendon in 2017-18 before transferring to Port Melbourne in the middle of this season and playing two matches for the Borough in Round 13 and 14. The South Bendigo (Bendigo FL) product suffered a broken ankle in the latter contest to have his campaign ended early for the second straight year due to injury.

TOM JOK (Collingwood VFL)

Rookie pick no.8 to Essendon

21-year-old Jok burst onto the VFL scene with seven exciting appearances late in Collingwood’s season. The 193cm Dandenong Stingrays (TAC Cup) and St Kevin’s OB (VAFA) product quickly became a regular on highlights reels with his athletic leap and running power, while he was named in the Magpies’ best players for their VFL elimination-final loss to Essendon.

Rookie pick no.11 to Geelong

Geelong natives will be smiling with the rookie-listing of local hard-nut midfielder Atkins, 23, who played 58 games for the VFL Cats from 2014-18. The 180cm St Joseph’s (Geelong FL) product co-captained his team in 2017 and then took the reins in his own right this year, with 2018 seeing him claim a second club best-and-fairest award and VFL Team of the Year guernsey after also doing so in 2016.

Rookie pick no.16 to Richmond

23-year-old Aarts’ consistency as a 180cm forward who prides himself on harassing opposition defenders and helping Richmond capitalise on the scoreboard caught the attention of the AFL Tigers. The Beaconsfield (South East FNL) product played 32 VFL matches for Bendigo Gold in 2013-14 before coming to Punt Road in 2015 and going on to make 49 further VFL appearances.
