The Hard Yakka / Totally Workwear VFL and Swisse Wellness VFL Women’s #LovetheGame preliminary final teams have been decided.
In the VFL, Richmond will face Port Melbourne next Saturday (September 14) and Williamstown will meet Essendon on Sunday (September 15), with both games 2.10pm at Adcon Stadium (North Port Oval, Port Melbourne). Port Melbourne eliminated an inaccurate Footscray in Saturday’s semi-final, while Essendon were able to kick a late goal against a fast-finishing Werribee side to avoid suffering back-to-back comeback defeats, with Tom Jok kicking the sealer for the Bombers.
In VFL Women’s, Collingwood and Southern Saints will play on Sunday (September 15) at 11.45am, also at Adcon Stadium. Collingwood suffered 12-point defeat to the Western Bulldogs, with the Bulldogs earning a week’s break and direct passage through to the VFLW Grand Final on Sunday September 22 at Ikon Park. Southern Saints booked a rematch with qualifying final opponent Collingwood on the back of a dominant third term against Melbourne Uni, producing the biggest win of the 2019 finals series, victorious by 17 points.
The Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation is once again supporting the finals as naming rights partner, with the Foundations #LovetheGame campaign encouraging football fans, officials and players to think about why they love the game and to appreciate the skills and enjoy the performances of teams that play in the finals.
Tickets for the preliminary final games will go on sale Monday September 9 at 12.30pm, with adults $15, concession $10 and kids U15 free at vfl.com.au/finals
