Three umpires from 2019 Victorian state-league panels are among eight total promotions to AFL umpiring panels for the 2020 season.
Victorian field umpire Paul Rebeschini has been promoted to the elite level after officiating in 59 Hard Yakka / Totally Workwear VFL games, including two VFL grand finals – one of which was this year’s decider between Richmond and Williamstown. Rebeschini started his umpiring journey in the AFL South East region.
Victorian Boundary Umpire of the Year Samuel Stagg has also been promoted following 86 VFL games. He began his career in Bendigo and also officiated in his second VFL Grand Final when the Tigers defeated the Seagulls in September.
Simon Plumridge is the third promotion from Victoria’s ranks, having emerged from the Eastern Football League. The goal umpire of 151 VFL games has officiated in four VFL grand finals, including this year’s decider.
“We’re extremely pleased and proud to have Paul, Sam and Simon promoted to the AFL ranks,” Victorian State League and Talent Pathway Umpiring Head Coach Cameron Nash said.
“All three umpires have performed to a consistently high standard over recent years and thoroughly deserve their opportunity. We look forward to following the next stage of their umpiring journey.”
